What's in a Name?

The genesis of the logo goes back to the symbols used in flow charts to design computer programs and applications.  My goal is to help you and your organization make the best decision, and then to exhort you to successfully move forward!

My Story

I have enjoyed a career working for a very diverse group of organizations, with every one being a leader in their industry.  SoCalGas was the largest natural gas utility in the world.  Paramount pictures is a leader in film and television production and distribution (and gave me some great stories).  Virgin Interactive Entertainment was leading edge in the production of video games in the early days of "New Media".  Vans is the most iconic brand in surf, skate and cool (and "Board Meeting" meant something different altogether)!  And Under Armour...I was blessed to be invited to join the team as the company's first CIO.  I was an instrumental part of the company's growth, from private to public, from $200M to over $3B, in 10 years.

I'm not a "propeller head", but I've enjoyed a very successful and award-winning career in technology.  My mantra has always been "business people first, technology, second".  My mission has been "Equip the Team, with Compassion".

Why "compassion"?

Because sympathy alone doesn't do anybody any good.  And passion...you can be passionate (lots of IT people are passionate about stuff nobody cares about), but until you are passionate about a person:  co-passionate, then you are not helping.  "Compassion" is that point where you are so in tune with another person's needs that you can't help but be moved into action.

"Equip the Team, with Compassion"...really understand what they need, and then give them the tools they need to solve their problems and reach their goals.

It was this philosophy that consistently kept the IT organizations I served with highest reputations and level of engagement.

It's that same philosophy that helps me be a good mentor and coach, a good teacher, both one-on-one and in public forums.

Other Compassions

I serve as Chairman of the Board of Child Hope International, a ministry to widows and orphans and their families, and make frequent trips to Port au Prince, Haiti.  I teach IT Leadership in MBA program for Pepperdine University.  I'm very active in my church, and got to help launch and serve Revolution Annapolis, a "church for people that don't like church".  I am an Eagle Scout, and am the proud father of two Eagle Scouts that have grown to be fine young men.  I play guitar.  I surf.  I run.  I fall off mountain bikes.  And I'm very co-passionate about my wife, Bernice!

Education

I'm a proud graduate of the University of New Mexico with degree in Business and Computer Systems.  I earned my MBA from Pepperdine, where I now get to teach as an adjunct professor! I also teach undergraduate students in the business school of University of California, Irvine.
